Pin of the Week

Although we are transitioning from nursery to big girl room with Vivi and have no plans to decorate another nursery anytime soon, I could not help but swoon over the design of this room.  Talk about the modern traditionalist.  Shelli, from a la mode maven, curated the perfect balance through the use of graphic fabrics and timeless silhouettes.  I love how elegant the baby clothes look in the gold leaf frames, darling!  See more of this room at Baby Lifestyles.

Twin Beds

A childhood friend of mine had two twin beds in her room when we were growing up and I always loved the look and functionality of it.  When my husband's aunt asked if we were interested in the twin beds she was no longer using I had to jump at her offer.  And when I saw them in person I was head over heals.  Today, we had those very beds installed in Vivi's room and her baby bed removed.  Sleeping arrangements around here are about to get interesting.

Kitchens: the Custom Refrigerator

As a self professed shopaholic, I pretty much love any excuse to go shopping.  Except when I unexpectedly must buy appliances.  Like a refrigerator.  Maybe one day that shopping trip will be an exciting one.  Custom refrigerator cabinetry makes me swoon.  It connects the kitchen with the rest of the house by bringing in elements that mirror real furniture.  And I love the use of exquisite hardware on all the following pieces.

This may be my favorite kitchen ever.  The designer, Michelle Allman, attended to every detail and created a luxurious and comfortable space.  I love the flame stitch fabric on the bar stools, all of the custom cabinetry, and of course that range is to die for!

Pin of the Week

I just love the feel of this nursery designed by New York's CWB Architects and recently featured on Elements of Style Blog.  I especially love the grasscloth walls (that color is so dreamy!), the giraffe lamp and that sweet hot air balloon.  Oh and we cannot forget the zebra!?! Who would have imagined so much style and texture in a space for a little one.

Year of Organization: Bathroom

Last month I began the monthly task of organizing different rooms in my home, beginning with the laundry room.  Conquering our bathroom organization seemed to be the most logical next step, and as expected proved to be quite the challenge.  I don't know about you, but I tend to be a beauty product hoarder.  Want proof?  In 2007 I bought 2 boxes of Victoria's Secret Body by Victoria lotion when it went out of stock.  5 years later, there are still a few bottles under my sink, and those I refuse to throw away.  I suggest performing the purge before you you begin organizing in the name or efficiency!

Keep bathroom drawers organized with new boxes or repurposed tupperware.  Organize cosmetics by category to ensure your favorite shades are easy to find.  If you are a makeup junky like me, I suggest purchasing a carrying case to store your more exciting shades of shadow and lipstick. 

I love the look of a thoughtfully arranged vanity tray, creating the perfect place to lay your wedding rings and go to earrings or bracelets.  Vanity trays are especially helpful in keeping frequently used items within arms reach while controlling the clutter. 

Dont' forget jars for disposable items and makeup brushes.  You can use traditional apothecary jars, mason jars, julep cups, or vintage silver.  The possibilities are endless!

Medicine cabinets tend to get overcrowded and are often an eyesore.  Martha Stewart suggests adding a sheet or precut galvanized steel to keep them organized.  Magnetic containers and hooks will secure small loose items.  Group like items together in small acrylic trays and make sure to purge at least once a year, tossing all expired cosmetics, lotions and potions, and medications.  

Open bathroom shelving has taken off in recent years and is a wonderful way to create a beautiful little bathroom vignette.  

Under sink cabinets can become disorganized very quickly.  Installing wire roll out trays or a lazy susan  helps contain the clutter and makes accessing toiletries easy.  Consider using baskets, planters or urns to store extra towels, toilet paper, and other bulky necessities if you are lacking under sink storage.  

The addition of monogrammed towels to even the simplest bathroom instantly elevates the chic level.  Many companies like Horchow and Pottery Barn offer monogramming for an affordable price.  Make sure your guest bathroom is fully stocked with the necessities and some special luxuries, your guests will appreciate your thoughtfulness.

Pin of the Week

I have a confession to make, I have been cheating on my favorite blogs.  With Pinterest.  I am in serious need of a Pintervention.  While I was contemplating what to give up for Lent, I considered Pinterest.  Honestly.  But I just couldn't do it.  It is my number one guilty pleasure and I get such joy looking at all of the little pretties that pop up on my screen.  Don't you?  You can keep up with all of my pinning here.  So, instead of giving up Pinterest, I will be posting on TSF every day (excluding Sundays) until Easter.  Finally a reason to become a committed blogger.

I found this image via Gramercy, one of my absolute favorite blogs, full of beautiful home inspiration.  I would love to visit their shop in Atlanta and bring home a few special and luxurious touches.  There are so many aspects of this room that I love.  The repetition of blue in the gourd lamps and the small benches, the chevron rug, the canopy bed and that wallpaper.  As any true Southern Girl would do, I would add a fabulous monogram to those shams.  Is it just me or are they begging for one?!  My favorite part about this look is that it is accessible to anyone!

Year of Organization: Laundry Room

At the beginning of the month I spent some time considering my goals for 2012.  My biggest goal of the year is to become more organized.  Deep down I am an organized person, but not in a neat freak type of way.  In order to accomplish this I have loosely used a few organizational calendars that I found via Pinterest, you can find them here and here.  Knowing myself, I thought the daily tasks were more than I could handle, so instead I decided to tackle my house by month.

January just happens to be the month of the laundry room.  Southern Living created a wonderful list of 10 ways to create an organized, functional, and beautiful laundry room.  I loved their advice so much I thought I would share it here.

1.  Work with the space your given: utilize every square inch and keep your workspace simplistic

2.  Hide the necessary supplies: keep unsightly clutter hidden behind fronted cabinets, add a hanging rod to keep hang-dry clothing neat and use baskets to softly contain laundry to be put away.

3.  Use a serene color palette: calming colors provide a sense of organization

4.  Designate spaces: create separate areas for each activity in a multipurpose room

5.  Camouflage the room: neatly tuck a small laundry area behind doors or create a room in of itself through paint and decor

6.  Conceal with curtains or cabinets: hide the washer and dryer behind curtains that coordinate with the adjoining room.

7.  Utilize kitchen cabinet space: in small spaces, place a compact washer and dryer behind pantry doors to harmonize the space with the kitchen.

8.  Add a storage island: space permitting, a large island provides room for sorting and folding laundry.

9.  Create an ironing station: keep all of your ironing essentials in one convenient space.

10.  Decorate your space: in a spacious laundry room, utilize closed cabinetry and open shelving to show off favorite items and collections.
